How often should I clean my ears?

With the wealth of information on the internet, advice on looking after your ears can sometimes be overwhelming and confusing. That’s why we’re here at Ear Wax Care to give you some top advice on how you should look after your ears and keep them healthy.

Ear wax is the substance made up of a mixture of secretions made up of oil, dead skin cells and hair. Many people are under the misconception that ear wax needs to be removed from your ears. However, the ears are in fact self-cleaning and you actually don’t need to use cotton ear buds or your fingers to remove wax.

If you have excess ear wax, then there are a number of ways that you can deal with this either at home or by coming in and being treated by an NHS trained Clinician at Ear Wax Care.

An easy way to treat them at home is by using olive oil. All you have to do is lie on your side and add 2 to 3 drops of olive oil. Then, you can repeat this 3 to 4 times a day for 3 to 5 days. Over the course of 2 weeks, your ears should be cleared up of wax.

If you’re looking for professional care, such as microsuction, we would advise that you see a professional for ear cleaning every six months or so. Of course, this depends on the individual too, so it’s possible that you might need to come in more frequently.

On the whole, we’d suggest that you speak with our team here at Ear Wax Care about how best to care for your ears and we will give you personalised advice, based on your ears!
